A Braves Victory at Home

A strong three quarters offensively brought the Braves a win on their home field. With low 70s for the forecast, it was a perfect night for some Montezuma football. Fans were able to see a variety of their favorite players make big plays in their 50-21 final score.

Within the first two minute of gameplay, junior, Trey Shearer had an early run to score. Freshman, Owen Cook kicked it in making it the first 7 points. Soon after, a courageous pass to Shearer provided another touchdown. This time there was a bit of a tussle in the end zone with a Colo Nesco player hoping for an interception but the touchdown was good. And just like that, the Braves were up 14-0.

Next up in our parade of Brave scorers was senior, Ben Jorgensen from a pass by sophomore, Eddie Burgess. This would be the third touchdown of the game already and we still had 3:21 left in the first quarter!

A player that needs a shoutout was junior, Brian Diaz who was on fire with his defensive plays. He was locked in on the ball carrier and followed through every play in stopping the Royals.

Jorgensen got another chance in the end zone in the second quarter, followed by junior, Kodie Strong. But wait, there’s more: still with 1:41 left of the half, a pass was complete from Burgess to junior, Cole Watts bringing the score to 42-7 and allowing the clock to run continuously due to the 35 point difference ruling.

Halftime entertainment for the game included the best pep band around (the Montezuma High School Pep Band, of course) - directed by Carrie Burnett as well as the Rah Rah Rookies performing all that they have learned from cheerleading camp this past week. It featured junior high and high school cheerleaders alongside future cheerleaders from 6th grade down.

After the conclusion of halftime, senior, Brayden Arendt made it into the end zone towards the end of the third quarter. The next play was for the 2-point conversion caught successfully by Cook.

Some new Montezuma numbers were seen on the field in the fourth quarter and we saw some big plays from the Royals, but it wasn’t enough to make up the damage that the Braves had already done.

If you missed this great game, you’re in luck, they’re back at home again on September 13th at 7PM.
