On Monday, September 16th Montezuma JV and Varsity volleyball defeated Colfax Mingo. With the home court advantage and it being homecoming week, it was a great night to be a Montezuma fan.
Starting off the evening was the junior varsity. It was an exciting battle with the Bravettes winning in three games with relatively close scores.
Between matches, future volleyball players who attended the Bravettes volleyball camp this summer were able to be a part of the announcing of the opening line up. They even got to be in the pre-game huddle.
Once the varsity girls stepped on the court for warmups, it was clear who had the size advantage. Montezuma. The Bravettes were able to find holes in the defense with their serves and attacks at the net. They had good movement on their side, communication, and reacted well to the ball.
Sophomore, Ashlyn Krousie showed so much power at the net. There were many times that Colfax Mingo just couldn’t stop the ball.
Bravettes win the first set.
In the second set, the game was finished with a long streak of tricky serves by senior, Shelby Conger. She got the score up to 24 and the game finished with a short serve by Colfax Mingo to end it.
Bravettes win the second set.
The third set started off with great ball placement by senior, Wavy Roorda and sophomore, Shanae Wetering. This team has already shown tremendous growth this season. But Wetering is a fun player to watch both on and off the court. She has so much energy for the team!
Bravettes win the third set and that’s the match.
Next up, the varsity team will be at the Ballard tournament at 9AM on Saturday, September 21st where they will match up against some bigger schools. Then they will be traveling again over to HLV on Monday, September 23rd playing at 5:30PM.
