Small, But Mighty!

Braves Run to the Bell to Celebrate Victory!

A big upset under the lights this week! Montezuma defeated, “best in the district”, HLV in a score of 56-44.

The temperature was certainly low, but the Braves brought the energy up in their battle out on the field. The first half was back and forth with the score, but with no time left sophomore, Eddie Burgess got the ball to junior, Cole Watts to get the lead going into halftime.

Halftime’s focus was about warming up a little, raising awareness and fundraising for Breast Cancer. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the Montezuma cheerleaders - led by Debbie Iverson - went around the crowd collecting money for the cause.

The pep band was unable to perform due to the cold, but recordings from the “best band in the land” were played still.

Back in play, the third quarter was a big one! It all started with an HLV fumble that was recovered by Burgess. Following, the momentum continued and the Braves continued to make plays and score.

The Fumble

The fourth quarter was close, but with the crowd backing them, the Braves were able to keep their energy and come away with the win.

WHO-TV, Channel 13 also made an appearance at the game. They ran a story on the 10PM news on the crazy cold weather in early October. The town was well represented even including interviews from junior, Carmen Klos from the student section and kindergarten teacher, Marcy James. Klos showed, along with her peers, that it was perfect blanket weather in the stands. James mentioned that it was perfect football weather...at least for those tough football players!

With hopefully warmer temperatures, the Braves will be playing next at English Valleys on Friday, October 18th at 7PM.
