Boulton Beats Best for the Bravettes

Put it in the record books...again. Junior, Elise Boulton broke her own school record again at Winfield-Mt. Union. She was the runner up in the girls varsity race flying through the finish in 20:28.
Across the board, there were personal bests - season bests AND career bests. Ten of the fourteen high school runners had career bests. Three had season bests. One ran their first 5K ever!

As a team, the Bravettes placed second out of seven teams in a small margin to, 2A team, Danville. Last year they placed 5th as a team at the State Meet. Here is the breakdown of points:
Danville 40pts
Montezuma 47pts
Mediapolis 86pts
Wapello 103pts
Central Lee 104pts
Louisa-Muscatine 149pts
Columbus Community 160pts

The top four Bravettes finished in the top fifteen of the varsity race, each earning medals. Those runners were: Boulton, Freshmen MJ Johannes and Mia Boulton, and sophomore Beka Teumer. Teumer was out all last week due to illness and came back at this meet leaving with a career best, a medal, and the #4 spot on the team. Senior, Carissa Vanzee ran her fastest time since running at WMU in 2018. Junior, Katie Probasco and freshman, Sadie DeJong were also top 5 medalists in the JV race. Probasco has continuously getting better throughout the season.

On the boys side, there were some more big improvements. Junior, Brydon Henning ran his way to a new career best of 18:14. He set his eyes on the finish line in the last 400m and chased down a couple runners in the last 100m to earn 12th place and a medal. Junior, Brayden Stockman ran his season best and said that he had fun picking off his competitors one by one. Freshman, Colton Benson managed to continue his PR streak and cut off a whole three minutes from his time last week. Newcomer, Dillon Nash had the whole team out on the course cheering him on in his first race ever.

Junior high had a number of strong runners as well. The 8th graders were able to compare their results from last year at the same course. Jack Erselius was 57 seconds faster. Jayden Ross was 2:07 faster. Camryn Brennan was 2:04 faster and Makenna Johannes cut 3 minutes off of her time from last year at the same course.
