The Montezuma cross country team sure ran like the wind...literally at the conference meet. “Literally”, being due to the tough wind that chilled the runners and spectators throughout the course. That didn’t stop them from some strong performances across the board.
Let’s not beat around the bush. The Bravettes brought home a team championship! This is the first in over three decades. They made history again! This is also the first ever girls team championship since the race distance was changed to a 5K. Congratulations!
A handful of high school runners received all-conference honors.
1st team all-conference: Elise Boulton (4th place), and Brydon Henning (5th place)
2nd team all-conference: MJ Johannes (6th place), Mia Boulton (7th place), and Brayden Stockman (6th place)
Honorable mention: Beka Teumer (12th place)
The junior high girls team got a perfect score of 15 points for the win and the junior high boys got runner-up. Individually the girls went 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, and 10th for their top seven. The order was Ellen Cook, Alivia Cline, Makenna Johannes, Lydia Singleton, Camryn Brennan, Aja Kapayou, and Ashlee Eilander. On the boys side, Carter McKee placed 2nd and Jack Erselius was 7th.
There was a ton of Montezuma community support all around the course. The Montezuma student athletes and coaches want to give a great big thank you to all that came out to cheer them on and celebrate their incredible accomplishments.
